I am Tanisha Sommerville-Knight, a vibrant and innovative individual from the luxuriant island of Jamaica. I obtained a diploma in elementary education at the Bethlehem Teachers College, a Bachelors in elementary education at the International University of the Caribbean both in Jamaica and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University in Utah. I taught in Jamaica for a few years where I gained experience through teaching 4th, 5th and also 6th graders. Wanting a change in environment, my husband and I moved to North Carolina in 2008 where I taught at Christ Our Shepherd Ministries Child Development Center in Matthews for a few years after which we moved to Smithfield where we now live with our 6 year old son Dominic. This is my tenth year as an educator and my fourth year as first grade teacher at Neuse Charter School. I’m overly elated to be a part of the school family.
My name is Samantha Dunn and I am a native of Johnston County. I graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in Elementary Education K-6 and a concentration in Reading K-12. I have currently been teaching First Grade for the past four years and before that I spent two years teaching Kindergarten. Prior to becoming a teacher I was a teacher assistant in middle school special education and first grade. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, and going to the beach. It is a pleasure to be a member of the Neuse Charter School family!
I graduated with a B.A in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara. After living at the beach for a few years I moved to the High Desert with my husband and began my student teaching at a wonderful up and coming charter school. I attended the University of Redlands for my teaching degree and began my teaching career. I have taught grades k-4 and I have enjoyed every minute of it! After I had my son, we decided as a family that I would stay at home and raise my children. It was the best decision I have ever made. We moved to North Carolina 7 years ago and after both my children began attending school at Neuse Charter, I decided it was time for me to go back to teaching full time. I believe in the mission and direction of Neuse Charter School and it is a privilege to be part of such a wonderful educational community!
I am a Johnston County native. I live in Four Oaks with my husband and three children. My favorite hobbies are working outside in my flower gardens and taking summer vacations at Lake Gaston. Our youngest daughter, Gloria Beth, was picked third out of the Neuse Charter School Lottery and became a Kindergartner in the Fall of 2012. As Parents, her Dad and I actually felt that we had won "THE" lottery since we had learned so many wonderful things about Neuse Charter. I immediately became an every day parent volunteer at Neuse while completing a Substitute Teacher course at Johnston Community College. As I was called to be a Substitute Teacher throughout all grade levels, my heart was pulling me toward the younger grades. I found myself back at JCC taking more courses where I received not only my credentials in Early Childhood Education and Development, but also, certification as a Highly Qualified Teacher Assistant. My family was blessed once again as I was offered a Teacher Assistant position in the Spring of 2015. We are thankful and blessed to be part of the Neuse Charter School Community!
