October is Bully Awareness month. We are doing various activities in the classroom and in teacher training focusing on how to make sure we are a bully free zone. We will support United Day on October 21 by wearing orange in support of everyone getting along. We will culminate this month with an Anti-Bullying Assembly on October 29th where each grade level will share something about being Bully-free!!! Please remind your student to be kind to one another and assist us in making sure each student is in a safe, supportive environment.
It is difficult to believe we are starting the third quarter. I am amazed at all the teachers and students have accomplished. We look forward to seeing our students strive to reach their goals for the school year. The Elementary Awards are on February 13, 2015. The awards will be held in the Gym and 3rd-5th will be from 9:00-10:00 and K-2nd will be from 10:30-11:30. Teachers will be sending out Invitations to the Award Ceremony if your child is receiving an award. If your child does not receive an award this quarter, work together to set goals and strive to receive one next quarter. Report cards will go home on February 6, 2015. Please review all documents that go home with your child, and if you would like to schedule a conference with your child's teacher, please mark the appropriate box on the Report Card envelope and return it to the teacher. If your child is struggling and has not yet met the middle of the year benchmarks, you will most likely receive a Possible Retention letter. This does NOT mean we are definitely retaining the student, but we do need to make sure that the area where the student is struggling is addressed. If you receive this letter, please sign it and return it to the teacher. Final retention decisions will not be made until the end of the school year. I also want to thank all the parents for supporting the staff at Neuse Charter School. The best thing you can do for your child is be involved in their education. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me or call to schedule an appointment.
Report Cards go home today, November 14th. If you have any questions about your child's progress, please check the appropriate spot on the report card cover that lets the teacher know that you would like to schedule a conference. If you received a letter about absences, that means you have four or more absences or excessive tardies. Please make sure you have turned in notes so that the absences are excused. However, if absences are excessive, the student's grade could be affected.
Elementary Awards day is Friday, November 21. The 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will celebrate from 9:00-10:00 in the gym and the K, 1st, and 2nd grades will celebrate from 10:30-11:30 in the gym. You should be notified if your child will receive an award during this event. If your child did not earn an award this nine weeks, now is the time to set goals and strive to meet those goals during the next nine week period.
School will be closed November 26, 27, and 28th. We will return to school on December 1 and we need to remind students that we only have 3 weeks until we are out for Winter Break. While I know they are excited about the upcoming celebrations, they need to do their best and focus on their work during this time. We will have an early release on December 19th. The high school/middle school will release at 11:15 and Elementary will release at 11:45. There will be no After School Care on December 19th.
The staff at Neuse Charter are using the month of November to focus on things for which they are thankful. I want to take this time to say how thankful I am for all the parental support and involvement we receive at Neuse Charter. The education of a child takes the school and home working together to ensure that each child reaches their full potential, and I am thankful for this strong partnership at Neuse Charter.
